What is a Founding Community?
A Founding Community is one of the first 50 communities approved on Knoso. These groups joined early, helped shape the platform, and receive a permanent 🌱 Founding Community badge plus launch benefits.
Founding status is limited and historical — it honors communities that were live and approved while Knoso was still growing, not every active group today.
How to qualify
Your community may become a Founding Community when all of the following are true:
- Your community is approved by Knoso (not pending or rejected)
- It ranks among the first 50 approved communities by creation/approval order
- It remains a live, non-deleted community on the platform
Important: Once all 50 founding slots are filled, new approved communities do not receive Founding status, even if they grow quickly or have strong engagement.
You’ll typically know you qualified when you see the 🌱 Founding Community badge on your group, or receive a Founding Community Unlocked message after approval.

The Founding Community badge
Look for 🌱 Founding Community on:
- Your community's tools and details in the app
- Community cards in Discover and feeds (often with a gold outline on the card)
The badge is meant to signal trust and early contribution — it does not change who can join your group or how Knoso’s standard features work.
Spotlight tokens
Community Spotlight lets one community at a time be featured to new users for a limited period (typically 3 days after approval).
- Requesting Spotlight usually costs 2 tokens per request
- Founding Communities start with 5 tokens — enter the queue without purchasing first
- Requests are reviewed in order received; not every request goes live immediately
- You can cancel a pending request; tokens may be refunded if Spotlight was not yet approved

Frequently asked questions
Is Founding Community the same as Founding Member?
No. Founding Community is for groups (first 50 approved communities). Founding Member is for individual users (first 250 members). You can be one, both, or neither.
Can I lose Founding Community status?
Founding status is intended to be permanent once assigned. If a community is deleted or removed from the platform, it will no longer appear publicly — but the status itself does not expire for active groups.
My community was approved after the first 50. Can I still get it?
No. Slots do not reopen. You can still grow your group, use Community Spotlight (with tokens), and use all standard Knoso features.
Do Founding Communities get automatic Spotlight?
No. Spotlight still requires a request and approval. Founding groups receive 5 complimentary tokens and launch positioning — not guaranteed placement.
How do I see if my community is a Founding Community?
Check for the 🌱 Founding Community badge on your community page and in Discover, or review your approval celebration in the app.
Why only 50?
Knoso limits Founding Communities to 50 so the badge stays meaningful for the groups that truly helped launch the platform.
